David Goggins attempted the 24-hour pull-up world record, battling through intense hand injuries in a test of endurance and resilience.
Endurance athlete and motivational figure David Goggins famously attempted to break the world record for the most pull-ups in 24 hours.
During his 2013 attempt, he faced severe hand injuries as his palms became blistered and torn from the strain, but he pushed through with his characteristic grit.
While Goggins completed thousands of pull-ups, physical challenges ultimately hindered his efforts to complete the record on his first attempt.
His tenacity and resolve continue to inspire many in the fitness community.
David Goggins Pull Up Hands
As you can see by the image above, he suffered severe injuries to his hands. David Goggins first attempted to set a pull-up world record on November 25, 2012.
His goal was to complete 4,022 pull-ups in 24 hours, aiming to break the previous record. However, after 13 hours and achieving 2,588 pull-ups, Goggins’ attempt was cut short due to equipment failure.
Refusing to give up, he made a second attempt shortly after at CrossFit Brentwood Hills in Tennessee, which he chose specifically for the intense, gritty atmosphere needed for such a feat.
During this second attempt, he managed 3,203 pull-ups over 17.5 hours before he had to stop due to his hands becoming too damaged to continue.
His efforts, though not record-breaking that day, inspired the local community and reinforced his philosophy of mental resilience and determination, values that Goggins continues to embody and promote.
